It Was Indeed A Mad Decent Block Party

Going to Philadelphia for the day had not originally been how I planned on spending my Saturday. But then Sonya from The Glasshouse DC hit me up and asked if I wanted to go on a road trip to the Mad Decent Block Party, which was taking place up there. Not one to pass up an opportunity to see something Mad Decent related, I happily agreed. It ended up being me, her, Stone from The Couch Sessions and DJ Cam Jus piled into a car. After checking the Twitterverse, it became apparent that a number of people were going to be in Philly specifically for the block party.

For those that aren’t familiar, Mad Decent is the music label of DJ/Producer Diplo. This was the second annual block party Mad Decent threw, and they had to make it bigger and better than the first. Some of the acts included Mad Decent label mates DJ Sega, The Brick Bandits, the band Popo, singer Maluca and of course Diplo, playing all the hits from Mad Decent’s Major Lazer.

Once there, it was obvious that DC was very well represented. In addition to Nadastrom (DC DJ duo Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom) who played to a hyped up crowd, DC’s finest were out, including the Nouveau Riche guys (Gavin Holland, Nacey and Steve Starks), Jackie O, Stereofaith, Andrew Jaye, Lil’ El, Manuelita, DMV rapper Lyriciss, and a slew of other DC-ites who left the city for a change of partying pace.

The music was bumping from the get go and while not everyone was dancing at first, by the time Diplo got on stage everyone was drunk on PBR and ready to dance dance dance.

After the jump you can check out a few of my fave photos from Saturday. You can also see the full set over at my Flickr page.
